Gustavo Dudamel
Gustavo Adolfo Dudamel Ramirez the thirty year old famous orchestra conductor, was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Son of a trombonist and a voice teacher. Started to study music since little at the music school “El sistema” (a famous Venezuelan musical education program), his first instrument was the violin which he started to play at ten years old and went to two different schools to learn more about violin. He began to study conducting in 1995 with Rodolfo Saglimbeni and later in 1999 with Jose Antonio Abreu.He was named conductor of the “Orquesta Sinfonica de Venezuela” (the national youth orquestra and tour many countries.Gustavo debuted with the Philarmonia, the Israel Philharmonic, and the LA Philharmonic, among others, in 2005, and also signed a recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon. He made his debut at La Scala, Milan, in November 2006.
On April 16, 2007, He conducted the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestrain a concert in commemoration of the 80th birthday of Pope Benedict XVI, withHilary Hahn as solo violinist, with the Pope himself and many other church dignitaries among the audience.
He is currently the principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony in Gothenburg, Sweden, and music director of the LA Philharmonic in Los Angeles, California. And also is the artistic director of Orquesta Sinfonica Simon Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela.
