Independence
Venezuela was under a complete domain of the Spaniards, and the “Caraquenos”(people that are originally from Caracas, Venezuela.) where upset of them because many laws were imposed oppressing the provinces. Like Bolivar said in his famous letter of Jamaica: “..with irritating restrictions, such as the prohibitions of fruit cultivation in Europe, The king’s monopoly of the production from the provinces, the exclusive privileges of trade to the objects staples, barriers between provinces so this cannot negotiate, understand nor deal with each other.”
The Independence of Venezuela Began in April 19th,1810.When a group of “Caraquenos”(people that are originally from Caracas, Venezuela.) took advantage of the fact that Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Spain, forcing the current King of that time (Carlos IV) to leave his throne and imprisoned his son Fernando VII, and instead named his brother Joseph Bonaparte; convening a meeting with the council and proclaimed an independent government until Fernando VII returned to the throne of Spain.
The General Captain, Vicente Emparan, disagreed with this, and went out to the balcony of the council’s office to ask the people who gathered in the main square(Plaza Bolivar today) if they want him to continue on charge of the province of Caracas, and the priest José Cortés Madariaga, who made signs to the crowd(From behind of Emparan) for answers “no”. So that’s what happened. Emparan said then, did not want to command, resingned and went to spain with his colleagues. He had started the Independence of Venezuela.
